Well, lots of people do, we are just not "in the know" of missions out there. The mission has been open since 1993 and a second mission opened in 2007, the Bangalore Mission as a matter of fact. Since then we have been learning a lot about preparing a missionary who is going foreign in less than 10 weeks. It was a little nerve wracking but several things made it easier. 1) Lists - the call came with lists, thank goodness. So he/we began getting things together based on the list and we were trying to figure out how to fit everything in the limited amount of suitcase space he was allotted. No, go joe. It listed toiletries for 2 years, 2 YEARS and only 1 large and one small suitcase plus all of his other stuff. Overwhelmed, I quit trying quite so hard because I didn't know how to make it work and he was so busy working and playing he didn't either.
THEN, the mission presidents letter came and solved the problem! thank goodness!
He said don't overpack, you will be in a huge city with tons of shopping available including malls. Relief, he only needed 30 days worth of supplies, easy peasy!!!!!! we can do that!
