Michael's ballroom dance party was tonight he dressed up with "SMARTIES" candy taped all over his pants...get it? Oh and because he would really have preferred to dress up as a football player he sprayed his hair with Boise State colors for effect...or something. It was fun to see all the kids in costume actually dancing real dances together instead of just moving their hips or whatever to the music.
When the older kids were in high school and attended dances they commented on how no one really danced, probably because it is becoming a lost art, and some of the proms became Mosh Pits, crazy. We were watching one of my favorite movies "The Sound of Music" the other day and the part where they have the ball at their house and everyone is dancing and they show the Von Trapp kids dancing outside, Michael said "That was back in the day when everyone knew how to dance."
I remember my Mother telling me stories of how they attended dances, everyone knew how to dance and they were fun social events. Social dance classes hardly exist in schools today, at least around here. The social nuances of learning to dance are really helpful for teenager's and adults; we really need to do more dancing!
